Air Jordans are a brand of shoes that have been around since 1985. They are an exclusive sneaker that many people buy, of all ages. Michael Jordan wore his tennis shoes during his basketball games and made these sneakers LEGENDARY, like himself. Everyone wanted these shoes, everyone wanted to be "Like Mike", and as the years went by Jordans became very known. Jordans has numbers of different sneakers of all different styles and colors as shown below in the video. In 1989, shortly after Jordans came about, a young boy was found dead and barefoot in the woods, after someone stole his retro air jordans (Augustine, 2013.) Back then, Jordans were $115.00 where as now they are $200.00 for men's sizes. I believe that a lot of the issue here is that the shoes has become so expensice that the people who simply cannot afford them feel the need to steal them from others to hurts others just to have a pair. Jordans sneakers have been put on such a high pedestal and the media does not make it any better. Watching T.V., I see iconic celebritites having all of the latest Jordans and this makes people want them more, knowing that famous people have them and that they're a very popular shoe that is going to make you feel or look good wearing them. 

 

After reviewing some of the Jordan release dates, I did notice that Jordan has been releasing some of the best shoes during the holiday season and this is when a lot of the violence is occurring. I think this is so, because some children probably cant afford to get the Jordans any other time during the year, so maybe it's their only chance to get a pair for a christmas gift. Lines are longer than ever around this season, for example last year when the Air Jordan XI Gamma Blues dropped. I remember these particular shoes being the talk around town and I actually got them myself. Luckily, I didn't have to deal with any chaos where I went, but friends told me that many people in the states of Wisconsin wearing fighting over these shoes and the lines were ridiculous. According to USA Daily News, in cities such as California, Texas and New York, shoppers were punched, and beaten up over these Gamma Blues (Augustine, 2013.)
